Viikonloppuna oli Messilässä Labradorinnoutajakerhon jokavuotinen metsästyslabradorien Derby & Mestaruus. Derbyyn saavat osallistua alle 2-vuotiaat ensikertalaiset labradorit, ja Mestaruus-sarja on avoin kaikille halukkaille. Kävimme paikalla lauantaina katsomassa karsintoja ja tutustumassa kisoihin.

Labrador gundog Derby & Championship competition was held this weekend at Messilä that is located in Hollola, Southern Finland. Derby is open to any max 2-year-old labradors who haven’t taken part to the competition yet, and Championship is open to all labradors. We went to see the trials on Saturday.

Kisoissa oli neljä eri rastia, joista kahta kävimme katsomassa. Rasteilla suoritettavat tehtävät vaihtelivat derbyn ja mestaruustason välillä. Alla olevassa kuvassa on menossa nuorten koirien kaksoismarkkeeraus: starttipistoolilla ammutaan ja samalla vasemmalla olevat avustajat heittävät damin maastoon. Sen jälkeen ammutaan uudestaan ja heitetään toinenkin dami maastoon. Oikealla pienen mäen päällä oleva koira lähetetään hakemaan ne yksi kerrallaan. Koiran olisi tarkoitus muistaa mihin päin korkeaa heinikkoa damit putosivat, ja jos koira eksyy etsimään väärältä alueelta, sen ohjaaja saa pillin ja käsimerkkien avulla ohjata koiran oikeaan suuntaan.

The competition was held in four locations/checkpoints within about one square kilometer, two of which we visited. Each location had a different task for young derby dogs and championship candidates. In the photo below a derby dog is performing a double marking task: assistants on the left side of the photo will shoot with a starter pistol and simultaneously throw a dummy to the grass. Then they shoot & throw again so that there are two dummies in the grass. The dog handler sends the dog to retrieve the dummies one by one. The dog is supposed to remember both the places where dummies landed. If the dog starts searching the dummies from the wrong place the handler can direct the dog with whistle and hand signals. 

Vesipisteellä olimme katsomassa mestaruus-sarjan vesinoutoa, jossa ammuttiin ja heitettiin dami veteen, mutta koira piti kesken noudon ohjata sivuun hakemaan vasemmalla olevalta pieneltä saarekkeelta sinne etukäteen laitettu dami jota koira ei nähnyt. Sen tuotuaan koira lähetetään takaisin hakemaan sitä alun perin ammuttua & heitettyä damia, ja koiran olisi tarkoitus keskeytyksen jälkeen muistaa, missä se on. Vesinoudosta oli haasteellista saada kuvia koska lampea reunusti runsas kasvillisuus, joten näissä kuvissa osallistuva koirakko on kuulemassa ohjeita tuomarilta (oikealla/keskellä ruskeassa takissa) ja odottamassa aloituslupaa. Kuvan tuomari on itseasiassa belgialainen Lydia jonka uros on pentueemme isä, ja jolle meni pentueemme toinen uros toisen jäädessä kasvattajalle itselleen.

At the water retrieval point there was championship league task where the assistants shoot with the starter pistol and throw the dummy to the water, but while the dog is performing the task the handler will interrupt and guide the dog to first retrieve a pre-placed dummy from a little “island”-like piece of ground. After the dog returns this dummy he’s supposed to remember where the water dummy landed and bring it back. It was pretty challenging to get good photos with limited view because of the bushes around the pond so in these photos on the left is the dog & dog handler and on the right/middle is the judge in her brown coat. Actually the judge in the picture is Lydia, she from Belgium and the owner of the sire of our litter and the second male puppy went to her, another one stayed with the breeder.

Kisoissa oli mukana myös kasvattajamme, ja kisoja katsomaan tuli myös Dharman sisar Varjo ihmisensä kanssa. Niinpä ennen lähtöä päästettiin tytöt vielä painimaan höyryjä pois. Leikkisessioista tulee monesti niin kivoja kuvia, joten tässä vielä niitä ihailtavaksi. 🙂

Our breeder was also there, and Dharma’s sister Varjo was also there with her human. Before leaving we let the girls to wrestle a bit, here are some photos of that. 🙂
